Bagpipes

Max loves bag pipes.
Who knew??
Tonight I learned:
The bagpipe is the same today as it was 400 years ago.
They were outlawed for 100 years.
And Bagpipe songs make me tear up.
But only the ones that they play at funerals and baseball games.
The other kinds make me feel a titch nerdy.
But in a cultured/educational "I'm smart like Ames" kind of way.

Poison control knows my name.

How many times do you have to call poison control before they report you to CPS?
Just sayin'.
Oxy clean in the eyes.
When he walked into the laundry room while I was mid-spray.
It wasn't pretty.
Have mercy.

skinny dipping in alaska

right after john found a nail in our tire,
the rain drenched us with warm bath water on our way into costco.
big fat drops that made us look like we had just showered.
max's face was dripping from her chin.
brennan's head could have mopped my kitchen floor.
which it needs,
but that's not what we're talking about right now.
or maybe it is.
anyway,
do you know how cold it is to go into costco in the summer when you are soaking wet?
COLD.
all of that air conditioning blowing on our soaking wet selves,
and we might as well have gone skinny dipping in alaska.
and of course we had to make a stop in the freezer of veggies and fruits.
so, what did we do?
bought a fuzzy blanket and some purple smoothies on our way out.
not only were the little chickadees dry,
but so was our cart.
b/c really,
who wants to eat soggy bread.

july has us trashed.

dear july,
we've partied so hard for you that i'm ready to skip august and move straight onto the halloween.
ok, not really.
just kind of.
b/c july is like coming home from vacation.
after it's over,
it's hard to get back into your swing.
without all of the hustle and bustle of holidays and trips to shape your days and weeks.
where you are thrown back into the reality of your routine.
like it or not.
or both.
whichever.
which is really still no routine.
b/c it's summer.
and the routine of summer is that you can sink into your bathing suits from dawn to dusk.
forgetting what day it is until you try to figure out how many days it's been since the kids have been bathed.
or how many weeks days it's been since the house has been cleaned.
b/c sitting outside slathered in sunscreen with a Popsicle and strawberry lemonade is the only thing we will for surely accomplish the entire day.
ok august,
give us your best shot.
we're not through with you yet summer.
we just need to work in some more naps.
july has us trashed.
thank you july,
we loved every minute:)
all my love,
em

stay awake, don't fall asleep.

nighty night:)

TKO

play rocky music in your head while looking at these.
it is necessary.
brennan finally has a built in playmate that plays back.
 TOTAL KNOCKOUT:)
team mom-1
team kids-1 billion

the artichoke

how much nutritional value do artichokes really have?
this is what sean and i were talking about over dinner the other night.
i mean really,
you get the little bit of meat on each leaf (which you dip in butter AND mayo),
and you do this until you get to the heart which you subsequently slather dip in butter AND mayo again.
so my question is,
is there even enough in there to be nutritional,
AND
if there is something in there worth some kind of nutrition in the 1/4 cup of vegetable you actually end up eating,
how much of it is cancelled out by the butter AND mayo?
important dinner conversation.
open for comments.

kosher salt takes the lead.

this means:
A. i will be growing zucchini in my garden next year.
and
B. the kosher salt will now be moved from the back of the pantry shelf to the front of the pantry shelf.
that is all.
thank you lisa.

july will do that to a person

so far today,
brennan has peed on my stairs.
and IN my dryer.
yep, you read that right.
what?
that's what i was asking myself when he told me.
my brow furrowed.
head tilted a little.
so when i walked into my laundry room and found a puddle of pee in my dryer i said,
"oh, you really peed in my dryer."
and he said,
"yep, that's what i said!"
well ok.
since he peed on andrea's carpet last week too i guess it's safe to say we've ruined our 2 month streak of being accident free.
well then, i suppose we can be grateful it's only pee:)
we mormons celebrated pioneer day this weekend.
basically a 4th of july,
round 2.
where we remember the pioneers that crossed the plains and settled the beautiful valley of salt lake.
oh how glad i am that we got to soak in the celebration all day.
with fireworks and s'mores in the rain at night.
i am officially on my way to being summered out:)
july will do that to a person.

southwest safety announcements {THE END}

and then we flew home.
and we were sad.
and happy.
all at the same time.
funny how that happens with vacation.
p.s.
southwest saftey announcements are hilarious.
"if you're flying with children, place your mask on first. if you're flying with more than one child, place the next mask on your most favorite child or on the one with the most potential."
THE END.
