you, you, you otta know

we're canning green beans once a week over here.
in the pressure cooker.
just thought you, you, you, otta know!
{are you singing the alanis morissette song in your head now too? sorry 'bout that.}
also,
i have a strong yearning for 2 feet of snow to fall onto my front porch.
and all over my yard.
but not in an "i want it to actually snow tomorrow kind of way,"
just in an "i'm looking foward to the next few months kind of way,"
as the holidays all fold out in front of us,
without any of the rush b/c it's all just far enough away that there's still room to stretch out your arms in front of you and not touch any of them just yet.
but not the colds, and the flus, and the streps, and the pink eyes,
b/c i'm not interested in any of THAT kind of nostalgia.
just the kind that makes me want to pull up a spot on my couch in the big room,
with the shutters wide open,
and a fluffy blanket all around me.
the quiet dark streets of snow and slow.
with the hum of the furnace as the only sound running through my house at night.
and when i hear the wind outside,
my heart races a little,
but not in a scary way.
in an excited way.
and part of me goes to rush to the windows,
to check to see if there are any blustery flakes falling outside.
through the dim light of the street lamps.
and then i remember it's september,
not december.
and that THAT would just be rushing things,
so nevermind;)
because the perfect weeks of fall are here.
they are here,
and they are absolutely the most wonderful warm weeks of the entire year.
from now through the middle of october.
when you can wear jeans and a t-shirt with flip flops during the day,
and grab your extra layer by 5:30 at night.
where you can cool your house down with box fans as the sun goes down.
and leave your windows open to get your room into the 60's while you sleep at night.
and for a minute i can see why people want to live in sunny san diego.
b/c 70 and sunny is pretty great.
except there's just one thing.
i really love snow at christmas.
like i said,
i'm just a sucker for pomp and circumstance though;)
HAPPY FRIDAY!!!

Sunday, January 27, 2013

this weekend i remembered i used to be in musicals.

mary, me, johnny,& sean
MISSING: audrey
{we couldn't find her for the picture}
...
"last friday niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight"
mary played "taylor mckessie"
johnny played "james"
and audrey was in the ensemble.
johnny wore his stage makeup and called his mascara "MANscara."
mary and audrey looked so grown up,
and johnny's rendition of pretending the be "the worm" brought the house down.
he is one funny guy.
they were all SOOOOO cute.
it made me think about all of the hours i spent practicing for musicals back in my high school days.
and i vowed to go to more plays and musicals from here on out.
{sean is sooooo gangsta}
they tell me this kid is famous.

courtney & beth {and brood}

beth and courtney showed up on my front porch last night as a surprise!
such a wonderful surprise!
DREAM COME TRUE!!!
there i was cleaning up super heroes in the front room,
waiting for sean's car to pull into the driveway from work,
and i looked out my front window to see them walking across my front lawn.
with babies on hips a piece.
i ran to the door,
opened it,
and screamed so loud that i woke bear up from his nap.
sean came home and took the big kids out for secret birthday errands
{i love when he does this--so cute},
and the three of us ladies let the babies roam the toy room like little puppies on christmas morning.
they crawled every which way.
we fed them,
nursed them,
listened to christmas music,
talked about germany,
the autobahn,
and how it doesn't have a speed limit.
{i knew it was fast, i just didn't know there was no limit.}
we ate the peach salsa with the cinnamon sugar tortilla chips linsey's husband found,
tomato salsa with regular chips.
told beth about instagram.
and Siri.
we took turns chasing the pea sized climbers up the stairs,
down the stairs,
and around the corners.
sam only fell down the little stairs once.
it was sad.
we pulled max's my little pony crowns out of their mouths about a million times each,
laughed about the things sean used to do to torture the two of them in high school
{boys are mean}
reminisced about the good ol' days in chico student ward,
we talked about being moms,
and life.
and that turning 30 is great!
we all did it this year,
and still feel like young little chickens.
not what we expected.
in a good way.
then we talked about how beth knows the drummer in the band neon trees.
elaine.
like really knows her.
b/c she used to live in beth's basement.
before they were big BIG time.
and courtney has met her.
and did you know they played in the macy's thanksgiving day parade this year?
and then courtney and beth sang the chorus so i would know what they were talking about.
and then i KNEW what they were talking about!
i made two of my famous pizzas,
pepperoni, mushroom, and olives.
we oo-ed and awed over each others babies
until the exhaustion of the day sent everyone home.
and it was glorious, glorious, GLORIOUS!
no matter what you have or don't have,
none of your haves are as good
as having treasures of amazing people all around you.
in this i am very
very
rich:)

 now all i need is some snow:)

hitched.

while in california,
chase developed a fancy for organic baby oatmeal.
there's an entire store for things of this nature in my hometown.
two if you count cunha's.
i COUNT cunha's b/c they didn't sell gerber oatmeal there either.
we got all glammed up for paige and teddy's big day,
{my parents included}
dancing shoes and a twirly skirt for me.
brightly colored dress for sandie {i loved},
suit for dad,
collared shirt, strapping plaid shorts for chase.
hair rollers.
blush.
powder.
concealer.
eye liner. eye shadow.
mascara!!!
mascara!!!
for me.
no pampering expense was spared.
baby man chase was a great date.
and cheap.
in a good way;)
and the bride,
OH THE BRIDE!!!
my lovely and long time friend paige
{from our cheerleading days}
was the most beautiful bride i have ever laid eyes upon.
oh to be with my girlfriends from my high school days again.
i wanted to hug and kiss them all a hundred times over.
and am sure i came fairly close to achieving it.
BLISS!
my favorite part of the night was breaking it down with my girls to "our song".
none other than mariah carry's "HEARTBREAKER."
and make no mistake,
we still know all of the words.
{and i still know the words i came up with--i'm famous for singing the wrong words.}
the dance floor didn't know what hit it;)
{the only thing we were missing was paige's ghetto caddy and the football field.}
the rest of my trip was spent hitting up my traditional hometown food spots {TRESsssssss},
shopping with my stepmom at our favorite baby boutique in town,
and introducing chase to my aunt and grandparents for the first time.
we landed in salt lake during the last minutes of sunday night,
it smelled like rain when we walked off of the plane.
linsey picked us up and delivered us home.
and it was officially monday when we walked through our front door.
sean sleepily told me he was "so glad" i was back,
and "so glad" he "got to go back to work tomorrow."
and how he "doesn't know how i do it."
{i don't know how he enjoys "going to work" everyday. WIN/WIN.}
such a champ to brave the "BIGS" by himself.
such a gift to get a weekend alone with my baby man chase:)
chase has never looked so excited to be back with his crew again this morning.
nothing like a monday to get you back into your groove.
CHEERS TO PAIGE & TEDDY!

p.s.
thank you brooke.
your stroller was a lifesaver.

bugs bunny {young at heart}

a few nights ago at dinner
brennan told us
he was going to be so sad when he wasn't a kid anymore.
me too B-man.
me too.

"Fairy tales can come true, it can happen to you
If you're young at heart.
For it's hard, you will find, to be narrow of mind
If you're young at heart."

"You can go to extremes with impossible schemes.
You can laugh when your dreams fall apart at the seams.
And life gets more exciting with each passing day.
And love is either in your heart, or on its way."

"Don't you know that it's worth every treasure on earth
To be young at heart.
For as rich as you are, it's much better by far
To be young at heart."

"And if you should survive to 105,
Look at all you'll derive out of being alive!
And here is the best part, you have a head start
If you are among the very young at heart."

"And if you should survive to 105,
Look at all you'll derive out of being alive!
And here is the best part, you have a head start
If you are among the very young at heart."
-Frank Sinatra "Young at Heart"
