meet & greet monday!

after a long weekend we're all back at it again, so it must be...
"meet & greet monday!"
it is my pleasure to introduce you to everyone's grandma
(but for realz is yours truly's).
this lady has sass and a sense of humor to knock your socks off.
ladies & gentlemen, friends & family,
"meet & greet"
grandma gigi!
full name: Carol Fern MaComb
nickname: "GiGi" (jee-jee)
age: 82 on dec. 10th
children: 7
best advice you can give: be honest
greatest adventure you've been on: oh my catfish, hmmm, i don't know...about adventures, the trip i liked the most was when your mom and i went to Shanghai. i think Asia is interesting b/c it's a third world country, but yet there's so many things we never see.
favorite hobby: golf
why?: b/c it's outside and it's a challenge, it's not the easiest thing to do to hit that little round ball and make it go where you want it to go...and i like the exercise, i don't ever take a cart, i like to walk.
first thing you do when you wake up: i have to go pee, at my age, you just try to make it to the bathroom on time. also, i wash my face, brush my teeth, so i wake up, and then i read the paper ALL the way through.
favorite singer: frank sinatra b/c he's more my age (he also hit on grandma in vegas, but that's not why she liked his voice) & louis armstrong with his raspy voice "what a wonderful world..."
famous people you've met: frank sinatra, louis armstrong & band members (they used to come to our house, your mom tended one of their kids when they were in town), sofia lauren, count bassie (he was a band leader), benny goodman (band leader), janice joplin (i didn't like her at all), ella fitzgerald, jimmy durantee, no presidents, just lots of stars, probably people you wouldn't even know.
bowling or golfing: i like golfing better, but you bowl in the winter and golf in the summer.
favorite sport to watch on tv: baseball b/c i don't understand football
favorite movie: i always liked all of the alfred hitchcock movies, but the sound of music is my favorite. it was musical, and it was something i could see really happening, escaping out of the clutches of war, them falling in love, very romantic.
crazy memory: i met frank sinatra in las vegas, he came up to our table because al collins was there. al was a DJ who played frank's records. i think what frank like about me was my black hair and blue eyes. he had just broken up with ava gardener, and i think i reminded him of her, but he didn't know i was also sitting there with my husband. he asked me if i'd like to come back stage after the show. i asked if my husband was invited too, and it dropped right there.
memory you have of my mom: she was always beautiful, always so smart, always kept her room really clean, i was just always so proud of her. i always wanted a little girl and then i didn't want any more children, but that was not the case.

oh grandma gigi,
we LOVE you millions!!!
(which is the amount you say grandpa erwin owes you for having all of his babies)

it's
"meet & greet monday!"
today i have the privilege of introducing you to an
alaskan princess
who is quite the lady to look up to.
ladies & gentlemen, friends & family,
meet & greet
jocelyn!
full name: Jocelyn Marion Peterson Johnson
age: 26 - Holy Cow!
birthplace: Kodiak, Alaska
residence: 3 bedroom home the size of an apartment; San Antonio, Texas
hobby: Gardening and trying new recipes
something you've done that i haven't: Alaskan Native stuff. I've caught and cleaned fish, been out on a commercial fishing boat, driven a boat, hunted for - caught - cleaned - cooked and then eaten octopus, been with my father while he shot and dissected a seal right on the beach (I took the fat off of the seal hide when we got home, and I was the one running into the house when the bear came down our driveway cuz he could smell it miles away).
fishing experience: One time I saw a 300 lb. halibut - it was bigger than the guy that caught it. (He strapped himself into the seat on the boat in order to reel it in). Joceyln's son Ethan, age 10 months
family: My dad is Alaska Native - He remembers life with just radios and no running water. He grew up setting traps and taking care of his 8 younger siblings. I'm married to Daniel Johnson (2 yrs. this Dec!). Ethan was born in January of this year, and we are adopting my 12 yr. old nephew this spring.
something special about you: You can tell how I'm feeling from my facial expressions. alaska or texas & why: Oh man, tough one. I'm Alaskan through and through. My home state is beautiful, dynamic, and pretty dangerous, but Texas has some of the best people I have ever met. Their work ethic astounds me!
favorite memory with me: ward activity at the gym...we had reserved the lower courts and people were playing different games - tennis, basketball, and my favorite - volleyball. I was a senior, not sure about my future, not sure how committed I was to doing the whole married/Mormon-mom thing. I was playing volleyball and I heard someone shriek over by the basketball court. I looked over and there was Sean and Emily Gibson, a counselor in the bishopric, running all over the court with Emily on his shoulders holding on to him for dear life! They were hilarious and having the greatest time. I looked at the joy on their faces and thought to myself - if marriage is any thing like the Gibson's, if it can be that much fun, then it's worth it. It was one of the many memories I recalled when I made the decision to be a wife and mom rather than a career-woman.
one word to describe you: comfy

meet & greet monday!

your eyes are groggy and you're back at the week again, it must be...
"meet & greet monday!"
today i have the pleasure of introducing you to one of the prettiest gals i know! i have known this dazzling beauty since high school.
ladies and gentlemen, friends and family,
"meet & greet"
Maeve Martin!
full name: Maeve Katherine Martin
age: 24
birth place: Montara, California
dwelling place: New York City (i know, oh so sheik)
favorite memory with me:
There's so many. I mean, is it Disneyland with the choir, the high school musicals, or football games? One of the coolest memories though well, other than seeing you pregnant, was when I was a freshman in college at Chico State and your Dad came and visited and we went out to Outback Steakhouse. He made us eat so much food.
profession: Actor
current play:
I'm on the National Tour of "In the Mood." It's a 1940s Big Band Musical Revue. There are four singers, two men, two women, and a dancing couple. I am one of the singers. We began rehearsals in Lynchburg, Virginia and have gone across the entire country since September. We finish up right before Thanksgiving.
(isn't her life so glamorous!!??!!)
this picture is from the show. maeve is on the right.
what is it about acting?:
I'm not sure, but after a BA and MFA in Musical Theatre I guess I'm pretty into it. To me it's about telling stories that can inspire, entertain and even change people's lives.
favorite play/musical you've ever been in:
oh that's hard. Ok, "Once Upon a Mattress." It was so fun and it was one of the first leads I had in a big theatre. "Stop Kiss" a play by Diana Son: This was really important to me artistically, and I felt like I was really giving certain people a voice.
your dream performance (past/present/or future):
I was in "Oklahoma!" two summers ago and it was a dream come true. I got to play opposite my favorite leading man (and boyfriend) Andrew, and I got to dance and sing in a show I have loved deeply since I was a little girl. I also got to play Nellie Forbush in "South Pacific" on the deck of the USS Midway in San Diego. That was pretty inspiring. In the future, I would love to play Lois in "Kiss Me Kate" and a million other roles.
favorite character you've played:
Laurey in "Oklahoma!" The entire experience was beyond amazing.
first play: Romeo and Juliet in 7th Grade English class. I was Juliet
biggest dream you haven't achieved:
Ummm...I'm very happy with where my life is currently and whatever opportunities arise I will be grateful for, but I do want a family in the future. I really want to be a wife and a mommy.
biggest dream you HAVE achieved
(knowing me doesn't count, j/k):
Getting my MFA in Musical Theatre. I still can't believe I made it through. Moving to New York to see what was out there for me.
cities you've performed in:
A lot. I had a great time these last two years working in San Diego. On this tour I've been in some great places and some not so great. My favorites have been Appleton and Eagle River, Wisconsin, Butte and Missoula, Montana, Portland and Bend, Oregon, and hopefully a few more before this tour is over.
in love?:
Yes :) I am dating my best friend in the world Andrew Smith, we met in graduate school

this aussie from down unda'
has flair and exuberance! ladies and gentlemen,
meet & greet jorjia!!!
full name: Jorjia Renee Wolfgramm
age: 25
birth place: melbourne, australia
australia or america & why: that's really hard. ohhhh, probably australia. my family is there, the beach, warm weather, fish & chips, i could go on.
greatest accomplishment: uhhhh, how geeky do i want to sound...let's see, moving to a foreign country or getting married in the temple.
why physical therapy: i love to help people and make them feel better. help them accomplish more in their life.
who is your physical therapy idol & why: that's hilarious. ummm, the physical therapist that helped me when i was little doing respiratory physical therapy on me. that girl, she's the one that introduced me to the whole profession. kind of weird cause i don't know who she is, just a memory.
what scares you: spiders. huntsman spiders, but i don't think they have them over here. they are big and harry and disgusting, ooohhhh they are so gross, they always come in your room when it rains. they are pretty harmless, but they're ugly.
your life would be more simple if: i wasn't such an overachiever. that kind of just sums it all up.
happiest childhood memory: holidays to the beach with my family. we used to go up to queensland, north of where i live. it's really warm up there, we would stay in hotels right on the beach, spend two weeks, and i loved it. we'd always go right in the middle of our winter, but up in queensland it is tropical and always warm.
